(USGS Publications Warehouse,http://pubs.er.usgs.gov/)

Flagstaff Gardens

Last Monday

I participate a Funs Park Tour.We went to Hong Kong Park happily. This Park

being built at a cost of $398 million and opened in May 1991

covers 8 hectares in Central and is an outstanding example of modern design and facilities blending with the natural landscape.A further attraction is the way of flowing water

which has been employed as a thematic motif to link the different features of the park by waterfalls

streams

ponds and cliffs from artificial rocks. The Park has preserved a number of garrison buildings built beeen 1842 and 1910. The buildings included the formerly residence of the Commander-in-Chief of the British Armed Forces known as the Flagstaff House (currently acmodating the Flagstaff House Museum of Teaware)

the Rawlinson House (currently acmodating the Park Management Office and the Cotton Tree Drive Marriage Registry)

the Wavell House (currently acmodating the Education Centre) and the Cassels Block (currently acmodating the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre). We play happily and we finished the tour at 7 p.m.

Last month

my Japanese friend Kazuya graduated from high school and visited Hong Kong for a week. Kazuya and I met each other during an exchange program o years ago. We quickly became friends as we discovered that both of us liked animals and plants. So during Kazuya's stay here

I decided to spend a day visiting the Hong Kong Park and the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens with him

where we had much fun there. That day morning

we paid a visit to the Hong Kong Park first after having breakfast together. We enjoyed our walk on the peaceful Cotton Tree Road which leads to the entrance of the park. Upon passing the entrance

Kazuya was immediately stunned by the lush park we were in. He kept taking photographs of the big oak trees and lovely violets as we strolled. After some shots

he asked me where we could have the best view of the whole park. I looked at the map I brought along with and spot the Vantage Point

which is a high white tower. We thus headed to the Vantage Point and got to the highest floor of the tower

where we used the binoculars to look over the park. After some time

Kazuya said happily ‘’Christopher

that panoramic view is awesome! It’s totally different from the parks in Japan.’’ ‘’Then I’m sure that you will enjoy the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens we are going to later

’’ I *** iled. Kazuya’s eyes were filled with excitement. Before we went to our next destination

we had our lunch at a restaurant down in Admiralty. Kazuya and I ordered a set meal for o there. Although the meal was for o people

both of us could hardly finish all the food. Eventually

we left the restaurant with one fifth of the food uneaten

despite our best efforts to eat. Please see the later parts in 意见 2013-05-01 17:38:51 补充: We walked on the footbridges connecting the skyscrapers in Admiralty

passed the Saint John Cathedral and the Government House

and reached the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens. When Kazuya knew that there were orangut in the park

he rushed to the orangutan’s cage and gazed at 2013-05-01 17:39:14 补充: the orangut as if they were the fancy toys displayed in the toy shops. One of the orangut seemed to have felt Kazuya’s gaze and therefore gaze at Kazuya in return. The scene was so funny that I secretly took a photo of it! Next

we went to different zones in the park and saw different kinds 2013-05-01 17:39:37 补充: of reptiles and birds. Then

we sat down on a bench and chatted. We talked many different things like the animals

our choices of university

and our career in future. As a result

we talked the whole evening away. After that

we left the park and had a great dinner at a 2013-05-01 17:39:59 补充: Chinese restaurant. When it was time to part

we took a photo of ourselves. Then

Kazuya hugged me ‘’Thank you so much for spending the whole day with me

Christopher. I’m glad to have you as my friend.’’ ‘’Me too

Kazuya returned to the hotel he stayed in and I went home. After about o weeks since that day

I received Kazuya’s e-mail inviting me to visit the Japanese parks with him this summer. I agreed

and now I am really looking forward to the ing summer trip 2013-05-01 17:41:25 补充: .
